A week of 48 salmon

Week 31 on the Norwegian Flyfishers’ Club beats of Norway’s River Gaula produced 48 salmon and grilse in the end. There was some nice summer fly water (see http://www.nfc-online.com) but fresh rainfall would be appreciated now.

It is a stunning bit of varied water to fish, ranging from the lower, E beats which produced the fish pictured here, upstream to the wild and beautiful Upper Gaula beat which one day last week produced four salmon (biggest 13 lb) to one rod. The river now is full of fish of all sizes., but with a strong run of grilse.

Just to add that one NFC rod saw resting near a croy on beat E4 a salmon he estimated to be 1.3 m long. B-I-G one, maybe he’ll still be there when I visit in 2 weeks..
