Forty pounds on a 14-footer

One size up: the Swift 15-footer. This is 10wt but the 14ft is 9wt.

..but not any old 14-footer.. This 40lb salmon caught in Denmark a few days ago was caught on a Hardy Swift Mk II and as an owner of one of these exact same rods, I was pleased to see it. Actually come to think of it I caught the fish (13lb) pictured up on the header of this blog on my 14ft Swift. I know, 13lb, not 40!

Unfortunately there is not fish-action footage on the YouTube vid. But I like the way the anglers are all wandering around a bit dazed by the catch, which is not surprising. Note also how small the river is.

Aren’t there a lot of big salmon being caught this year? Well it seems that way, good innit? The Swift 15 is very good too, I used one lent me by the editor of Trout and Salmon in Russia last year (thanks Andrew). A superb tool.
