It hasn’t been the greatest of seasons so far for the famous north Kola rivers of Peter Power’s Atlantic Salmon Reserve with salmon catches down in lower water and difficult temperatures on the Kharlovka, Eastern Litza and Rynda. But momentous news has now emerged that ‘the English Tsar’ has sold his Russian ASR operation to Vladimir Rybalchenko from St Petersburg.
For the full Peter Power story click here but the hope will be among salmon junkies that Vladimir (Snr and Jnr – he has a son) will keep up the work of running these rivers as a salmon reserve. Etc.
A couple more Kola snippets are that the Varzina river ended with 55 salmon for 14 rods last week. Ryabaga camp on the Ponoi had an average 29 salmon for their 14 rods (350 in all) last week and the main camp on the Yokanga had 86 salmon to four rods (biggest 26lb to Charles Dewhurst).
Just to come full circle back to the Kharlovka, Justin McCarthy reported better sport for that iconic river with one day of 27 salmon.
