Sea-trout and a grilse (chance)

This was the superb sunset view upriver from Closeburn’s Woodend pool last night, then 30 mins later a 1.5lb seatrout was on the grass, swiftly released.
This morning I had fished the head of Porters when a grilse splashed upstream, I covered it and had a solid salmon sized pull to my small Templedog tube. Definitely the grilse I’d just seen, and yes my Loop double tube hooks were brand-new and sharp but no hook up on this occasion. Real fishing though, I was glad to get a reaction from a salmon and .. exciting..

Then a midday break: we visited Ward Law fort on the Nith estuary, with its views of Criffel and the Solway. Great views but the rain clouds were gathering, with heavy rain forecast tonight.
This should spice up the fishing but first another crack at that grilse in Porters..
