Two on the Miramichi!

It was exciting to catch my first-ever Canadian salmon yesterday on the River Miramichi. The fish were coloured grilse of 5lb (pictured, before release by my guide Washburn) and 4lb which both took a Dark Horse Templedog plastic tube fished on a floating line and long 12lb leader off a single-handed rod.

The river is low and many fish are showing their ‘Fall’ colours but although it has been a tricky late summer of drought following record catches in 2011, fish, including bigger salmon, are being caught.

The leaves are turning here and it is very beautiful to be in this civilised part of New Brunswick. There are exciting plans for next season … Watch this space!!!

  1. Pretty fish and lovely looking river. That clear blue sky probably not ideal for the fishing though!
