I have travelled half way round the northern hemisphere to find light like this. Basically, yes, with my fishing rod.
But on this occasion, last weekend, I just walked out of the back door at home.
It was a good weekend, but with a horsey event organised by Chloe, a busy one. My job was to look after Pippa, who also won a rosette for being especially helpful:
So how is the nascent 2014 salmon season going?
Well I know something of my sister WordPress bloggers Fish(Aberdeenshire)Dee via, well, WordPress and I know they are still aiming for their first three-figure week of salmon catches, with about the mid-seventies registering in the reports of ace fly-tyer, friend and newly installed Dee fisheries man Ross Macdonald (congrats Ross).
On the Nith a notable catch was on the Boatford Beat at Thornhill where a Mr Richmond caught – and released – a 7lb sea trout on Good Friday. This to add to the 12lb sea-liced springer caught at the Barndennoch beat, opposite our lower beat 3 at Closeburn, at the end of March. See both fish on this link.
So there it is. The Varzuga season starts in about 2 weeks… exciting times.
