Veteran flies that worked on their day

20160507_170144.jpgHere are some salmon flies that have caught me fish. They are battered and worn. But a bit special.

Here are some more:

Hope you are getting out and among the fish. I see the recent rain has brought an uplift in catches on the Tweed, as you’d expect on beats like Junction and Birgham Dub, and a Fishpal reporter returned a 25lb springer on the Burgh water of the River Nith. Which is nice.

Oh the big Waddington at the bottom of pic 2 caught me an 8lb September salmon on Islay. The one above is a Cascade tied by Glyn Freeman and it caught me a nice October fish on the Nith’s Thornybank pool seven years ago or so. The Irish shrimp fly second from top caught a grilse from the Nith’s Trolley pool one sunny October lunchtime a few years back. I played the fish out and returned it watched by an audience at the Barjarg hut which was fun. I’ve had very little success in that pool so it was an especially good moment.

Tight lines everyone. Summer heat in Cambridgeshire today even though it’s not quite summer – which will do nicely and long may it continue.
